Heavily influenced by the sounds of Jazz, Gospel and soul-stirring Rhythm and Blues, Signature Smooth has been singing all of his life. Born in 1989 and raised in Florence County (Lake City, South Carolina), Signature, born Harry Dontrell Burgess Jr., grew up in a family full of singers and musicians. Music has always been a pivotal part of Signature's life. He grew up in the Church, having a minister as a father and a quartet singer for a mother.
He developed his own singing style listening to the music of his favorite singers Toni Braxton, SWV, Joe, The Pointer Sisters, the incomparable Lalah Hathaway and his own family "Retha and the Gospel Caravans" of which he has been a member of. Signature sees himself as a singer first and foremost. He feels he has something to offer to music lovers that just isn't as prevalent as it used to be: an authentic, original voice.
In his own words: "I pride myself on being able to deliver a song live, with the same vocal capability that was displayed on the recordings. So I always keep my mind set on this goal of being one of the best there is, and giving people what they really need: a soulful singer who isn't afraid to deliver".
From the stages of his hometown, to the competitions sung in New York, the Bahamas and Disney World, even the stages of American Idol and Sunday's Best, Signature is not just a singer, but a performer. He can deliver in any arena of entertainment. Social Media has served as a great platform for him to share his world and his voice with all music lovers, and he is an avid user of most of the popular Social Media platforms.
